The sweater:Tory Burch did it right

This past weekend while in the desert I poked my head into the Nordstrom rack and found this great sweater that I have worn the past 2 days. By all accounts it looks ugly on the rack. It is an old man sweater transformed into something chic and interesting.  Here is the look and how to pull it off:

A New Year: Time to Edit

After the new year I enjoy helping clients streamline their wardrobes. A wardrobe needs to be clean and functional and now is the time to go through and edit away. Nothing feels better than a pared down wardrobe. What you will find is that after editing you will actually have more to wear.

architectural digest

Step 1: Pull everything out of your closet
Step 2: Get bins or baskets for organizing
Step 3: Put everything in a stack that you know you will not wear for at least 6 months, such as holiday party attire, off season items and stow.
Step 4: Be brutal and ask yourself if you love each piece in your closet and if it fits you. Have you worn it in the past year? Make a donate or consign pile. The chances of you wearing something if you haven't worn it in a couple of years are slim (unless it is designer or very expensive. You can always stow it and think about it again next year.
Step 5: Reorganize: Put all the jackets together, silk blouses, cotton blouses, shells, jeans by leg (skinny, boyfriend, straight leg) Fold heavy sweaters, put skirts together by length, dresses by casual to formal.
Step 6: Replace all hangers with hangers that match (I prefer the velvet non-slip)
Step 7: Make a list of what you want to add to your wardrobe based on what you have now taken out.

This is a great way to feel better about the start of the new year!

A few things I would edit asap:
-Ill fitting pants (too low rise, low rise bootcut jeans, old work pants for a job you no longer have)
-Inexpensive t-shirts that have signs of heavy wear (you can replace these)
-Anything stained beyond repair
-Shoes that have a super squared off or super pointy toe
